How to be a powder coating technician

If you’re a recent high school graduate and you want to venture out into your own business opportunities, powder coating is a fantastic service you can provide to build your business.

Here’s what a typical hiring process looks like for a powder coater:

Step 1- Job Description

It may look something like this:

Superior Powder Coating & Manufacturing Utah is a leading American designer/manufacturer of custom artistic railing for the hospitality, commercial and residential markets.

We are known as a major design innovator in our industry, and we’re rapidly growing. Our in-house welding capabilities, combined with our expertise in metal fabrication and machining, make us uniquely capable of addressing the needs of the design industry’s most discerning clients.

Superior railing can be found in leading tourist attractions, hotels and resorts, and award-winning restaurants throughout Utah. We also have a portfolio of Utah Parade of Homes, which some consider to be the most beautiful homes in North America.

Step 2 – Job Responsibilities

We are seeking a full time paint prep and entry level powder coating technician to join our team. Part of our intricate and artistic railing designs involves the final finishes.

Our railings are hand crafted from start to finish and the paint prep has an element of production and quality control with it. Prior to sending a railing  to the spray booth, your job is to inspect it for burrs, marks, grease, spots, dots and anything that would otherwise come across as an imperfection.

With this position you will also learn how to powder coat and put final finishes on our railings.

Regular duties consist of:

  • Lifting and moving parts weighing up to 50lbs
  • Reviewing plans to ensure all parts and pieces of the assembly are present.
  • Cleaning and inspecting each piece before sending to the spray booth.
  • Applying finish coat to lights.
  • Moving efficiently and effectively to keep up with the rapid pace of production.

Tools used:

  • – Scouring pads
  • – Acetone
  • – Hand tools
  • – Handheld torch

Compensation:

  • $13.00 to $15.00 /hour
  • Bonus & overtime available

We’re awfully proud of our powder coaters. They work hard to build a business that customers appreciate.  They also learn new skills that are valuable to themselves and their families as they grow and prosper in the company.
